I'm not from Missouri either but I'll fidn you pics as soon as I return from Afghanistan. I sold that very rifle on the page here two years ago. Its possible that it was a 6.4 but I really believe it was a 6.2. Send me an email in July and I'll be glad to send you pics...

I recently posted and sold a 6.68 handstamped carbine. The barrel date was 11-44 I believe.

Chris,
I have hand stamp 6.37 and a 6.38. I am a bit surprised you have not seen one in that range before. I did not know they were unusal. Just shows I have a lot to learn.

I didn't take pictures. From what I am reading, a handstamp in the 5 million range would not be possible?

The M2 carbine did not go into full production till April 1945. There was no need for hand stamping till the M2 started being produced and that was not until 1945. Inland finished off the 6.4 million range in December 1944 and started the 6.6 million range in January 1945. At that time Inland was still having enginneering problems with the future M2 carbine so there was no M2 production till after in 1945. In fact Contract #W-33-008 ORD-1043 was for Inland to produce M1 and M2 carbines from January 1945 to August 1945. Serial number starting with 6,664,884 to 7,234,883. No handstamps before these numbers.

They made carbines in July of 1994? Did I miss something?

Default Handstamped Carbine

For whatever it's worth. I have 66649xx, with a 1-45 barrel, that is handstamped, with a "1". In fact when I considered buying it, BQ97 pointed that fact out to me, at the store. I never would have even known about the handstamping. Thanks Brian, and I still keep it in my M1A1 2nd production stock. Even though it's about a day late for M1A1 production. It looks great! SKIP

Apparently, no one ever found a hand stamped Inland in the serial number range 6219689-6449868. I have yet to see a photo.
