Default 600 Yard Reduced (AR-MR) / No X-Ring

Looking at the 600 yard reduced for 3 position air rifle (AR-MR), there is no X-ring. So I tried to calculate the size to see if maybe it was so small, it wouldn't even show.

600 yards = 548,640 mm
X ring = 6 inches = 152.4 mm

10 meters = 10,000 mm

10,000 / 548,640 = 0.01822 reduction

X ring @ 10 meters = 152.4 * 0.01822 = 2.77 mm

If my math is correct that actually looks like the size of the 10 ring on the target. 10 ring should be twice the X-ring, so 5.54mm. That's about the size of the 8 ring on these targets. It looks almost like the 200 yard reduced (AR-SR) is what the 600 yard reduce should look like.

How did they come up with these new targets?

Frank

Are you considering the size of the .177 pellet in your calculation?

When Gary Anderson was explaining the NMAR targets to us, he basically said that touching the dot in the center of the 600 yard reduced target is a 10, you have to completely obliterate the dot to score an X. He said even with that, the X is still a little generous.

I must say, it works a lot better with the electronic targets at the CMP air rifle ranges!

It's no easy task to shoot that target. I'm almost up to shooting the same score as the real 600.
