Default 853 white plastic buttplate insert broken

Does this part have practical function, or is it only decorative?

I picked up a reconditioned straight stock Daisy from the NS this past weekend and got around to installing the sight and spacers tonight. When I removed the buttstock, the white insert fell out in two pieces, stress cracked along the lower screw hole. Appears to be a part that can easily break.

Should I pursue asking for a replacement? If it's not necessary, I can live without it.

If its the little white piece I'm thinking of, its not a necessary part, you can live without it.

Thanks. I figured as much. It's there just to give it that "inlay" appearance, but just wanted to be sure.

If you'd like to replace it, call Daisy. Most of the parts for the 853's are STUPID cheap!
