Default 03A3 Stock

Guys

Did the arsenals ever put finger groove stocks on these during rebuilds? My 7/43 Remington has this, purchased at a LGS. Stock has a SAA cartouche but I don't know if it belongs to the stock or the rifle, don't see any other arsenal cartouches. Thanks for any info!

Pat

No. Arsenals did not put finger groove stocks on M'03-A3's during rebuild.

Thank you greatly Mr. Beard, I may cast about for a proper stock for it. Love the rifle!

If you look inside your SSA stock, you will probably see where it was inletted for the handguard to fit around the receiver. Also, the inletting near the forward guard screw might have been opened a bit for the forward lug of your 03A3 receiver to fit.

Stocks which were made in 1943 were inletted to fit either the 1903 or 03A3 models, but they did not include the finger/grasping grooves.

It is possible that your stock was put on during an arsenal rebuild, or that it was put on later by a previous owner.

Almost certainly the latter. As John said, GG stocks weren't used on M1903A3 rebuilds.
