Wire sounds great. It turns your pipe bomb into a grenade. From Google:

"The body is generally made of a hard synthetic material or steel, which will provide some fragmentation as shards and splinters, though in modern grenades a pre-formed fragmentation matrix is often used. The pre-formed fragmentation may be spherical, cuboid, wire or notched wire."

Wire is going overboard. Several rolls of duct tape should easily suffice. Just make sure it's grey, the other colors aren't ballistically rated.

+1 on the pipe bomb comment. Brass casings a significantly under strength and will not be able to contain the pressure and maintain structural integrity. Original hand grenades were filled with about a pound of black powder and were made of steel, yet they still went boom and sent shrapnel everywhere.

Actually the duct tape in a large amount would be stronger..Your 105 shell casing just needs to hold the door back, like the one at my father's house? He served in USMC in Korea, Tank Commander..
