Ouch. Agreed that should have been sold as a rack grade or grade C receiver.

The quality has definitely not kept up with price as far as rifle sales go. Good to know.

I sent them a nice polite email this afternoon with pictures and listed out my concerns with this rifle, this receiver is not good or fair condition and has more than minor pitting.

I will update with the response or resolution, the CMP has been good to me over the years, and I’m am sure this will work out.

It's not the prettiest looking Garand, but at the same time I like the ones that look like they've had a rough life.

I feel you pain. Fortunately for me and I have learned my lesson, the Alabama store is a $100. flight away. It's really the best way to buy FG's. These Philippine Garand's appear to have been road hard and put away wet, lots of interesting finds though.

Wow, I cannot believe that someone felt right about just slapping a hackleberry stock on that receiver and deeming it a FG.

The hackberry stock decision has to be the most perplexing thing that the CMP higher ups have ever faced. I mean it's a totally utilitarian stock that fulfills it's required functionality, turns woodless rifles into a product they can sell to help the shooting community and looks pretty good as well to the casual observer.... No problem, right? Then they get a collective "NO" from customers and were probably stunned and a little frustrated. LOL

The important thing though is that the OP is on the right track going to Customer Service with this one. Best wishes.

IMHO I would have called and sent that back. The rust on the receiver is pretty major.
