Default NS Report 18 Jan 12 - photos added

I made the 5 1/2 hour drive to the North Store today. It was an early morning. I arrived at 8am and was first in line when the door opened. There were probably another 8 or 9 customers initially. A few more until I concluded my business and left at 10:40 for the drive home. I was after a nice Service Grade for my Friends of NRA committee and a WRA FG or SA SG for me. There were quite a few WRA FG's and about a rack of WRA Rack grades. I did not find a WRA with Win. barrel. Did see one, I believe, with a WRA bolt. Not really what I was after. There were probably about 8 or 10 1917's. Didn't really look at them. There were probably about the same number of chromed Krag's. Didn't spend any time there. No '03's. There were quite a few HRA and SA SG Specials which looked good, A fair number of FG & (I think) Rack M1D's. Quite a few Correct's. I didn't look at any of those.

As I said, I was there for the SG's. There were one full and one half rack of HRA SG's and only a half rack (one side) of SA SG's. No SA FG's. I'd guess the mix was about 70% USGI wood and 30% new. I started with the SA SG's. All had muzzles less than 2 and TE of less than 3, I believe. I had hoped to find a WWII w/ original barrel but, that was not to be. I did find two WWII SA SG's (a 200xxxx and 308xxxx IIRC). Both were the Greek black re-park. The 200xxxx had a NM op rod and I considered it for a while. I ended up with what I think is an original finish 5851xxx with a 3-55 SA barrel, nice correct SA stock, correct op rod, gas cylinder, front sight. MW 1+, TE < 1. It has a HRA bolt and SA trigger group (now). The HRA SG's were about the same as the SA's as far as MW and TE. I found a nice HRA SG with new CMP wood for my FNRA committee. It has a correct HRA barrel / receiver combination, HRA bolt, SA op rod, HRA trigger group (now). I picked up two cans of loose M2 ball, as well.

If you're in the market for a SG, you may want to get moving. I think there were about six others that left today besides the two I found. I'll try to post photos later.

I forgot to mention that the staff at the NS were very nice to deal with. Thanks for your help, everyone. I also forgot to mention that a gentleman found a HRA 5.4mil and, I believe it left today, too.

Photos of SA (just wiped down a bit):

Very nice looking rifle, and thank you for the report. It's interesting to hear what's turning up at both Stores these days.

Thanks. I just need a few things to make it 'correct'. Part of the fun.

Who got to sit under the blanket and hold the rifle?

Good looking selection.
