I got to handle one of those years ago. As I recall, the barrel was only bent about 30 degrees or so, not a full 90. But that was probably 50+ years ago and my memory isn't that good trying to remember things that far back.

I saw a picture of one of the around-the-corner shooting rifles long ago. I still wonder if it was real(sure looked like a real situation). But heck, if a little mud in a barrel can blow it up how does a bullet go around a bent barrel. I expect the OP's rifle is a burned salvage piece.
Oh, and the barrel is bent down. Might be the gangsta version.
