Would only consider one to build a shooter and Iím have tools to rebuild and repark one myself. Wish you could take them out of the stock to inspect them better. Might still get one for a winter project if I happen to be at TMP or NS When they are in stock, would be a good winter project.

They are fun to restore. They are also an opportunity to build a shameless clone of something you can't afford like a legit a4 or 1941 sniper. I worry a little bit about the safety aspect...because mine all become shooters... the first few rounds are always with a string and a sandbag.

They are certainly becoming rarer... the last 2 I bought at DuPage were the last they had. They came with plastic stocks. Really a bad deal for recovering anything other than receivers at 225. No wood to even attempt to rescue.

Typically if the cutoff weld is light/ neat. The weld on the barrel is too.

How often are CMP stores getting these in rebuildable condition? Most north store 1903ís had heavy welds and plastic stocks. Stock kind of ruined it for me, didnít seem like a very good value, at least not at $400.

400 bucks would be a big nope from me. I'd rather buy a real one for a few hundred more. I'm still kinda kicking myself for the dupage purchase. . .I think of the receivers as being worth 100-200 and that's all I got out of the purchase at 225 each.

That, of course, is assuming that they can be resurrected. Won't know until I take them apart.

Picked one up at the NS in February that had a slight weld at the cut off and something I hadn't seen before, the screws were welded to the trigger guard. There was no barrel to receiver weld, and the barrel wasn't cut. It appears the welding was done without removing the stock. The follower and spring was still full of cosmoline. If only I could get that rod out of the barrel. The stock looks like it was never used.
I got lucky that day.....

Weld cleaned up....
