Default Colt 1911a1 value

Hi all, looking to purchase a colt 1911a1 w/ Colt slide and have some questions. I don't see any rebuild marks but it looks refinished (maybe over some pitting) and has a post war barrel. I blurted out the last 2 numbers of the serial. Magazine is stamped S. Do you guys think this is an arsenal rebuild and what would a fair value be?
Thanks

Forgot to mention, this is not a CMP gun. My theory is it's possibly a DCM gun.

If the slide is a match to the frame this could go on the low side on GB for around $1700 up to $2200 again GB brings the most.
I think this was refinished , I believe it to have been done thru the military due to the contract barrel
If not matching slide deduction $300-400

How much do they want for it ?

They aren't sure. It's a friend of mine. We are trying to make it fair for the both of us.

Feel the sharp edges at the rear of the slide. If they don’t feel sharp or seem rounded off, then it’s been refinished.

It was definitely refinished (pitting underneath re-parkerizing on the front strap). I would go by CMP service grade price $1050 + $200 for the friend. Reason that I don't want to use GB auction price on CMP 1911 as those you know came from documented arsenal release. Since your friend don't have other documentation that it's associated with DCM, it is hard for me to price it higher. Just my 2 cents.

But you can always pay more to your friend.

Also there used to be a lot of those contract barrels for sale @ $75-90 each. Hardly a definitive proof using contract barrel as evidence of arsenal rebuilt.

Well I advised him that if the slide matches, it's worth relatively more. He accepted my offer of 1250. I checked it as soon as I got home and has a matching slide!

I'm going to try and see if cmp has any old dcm records on it.

The CMP has stated a few times that they not have DCM records for 1911/1911A1 pistols. I wonder if those DCM records might be available from the G on a FOIA request.

That sounds like a fair price for both of you. Congrats on your new pistol.
