Default PPU Garand ammo

I think I've heard good things about this here - is my memory correct?

Target Sports USA has some excellent prices on it this weekend (4/28), at 0.65/rd shipped, or 0.69/rd with an ammo can.

I'm thinking it looks like a pretty good thing - https://www.targetsportsusa.com/30-0...mo-c-2661.aspx

Looks about the same price per round - nice to know there’s a good supply of Garand food!

IMHO, it is good ammo. I have used it in 30.06, .308 Win., and 30 cal Carbine.

Only shot 80 rounds. Functions fine for me. Accuracy about the same as HXP. Seems to shoot a tad softer, a very subjective observation based on the calibrated old bones.

I was just looking at this myself and wondering. I've used PPU 8x57, 303, and 7.62x54 all with good results. I've noticed that it's very dirty powder, meaning quite a bit of residue left in the barrel but it cleans up fine. I'm on the fourth reloading for the 8x57 using full power loads, the brass has been very good so far, no splits or loose pockets. I think I'll eventually order some for the Garand.

Any feedback on the PPU 30-06 150gr soft point?

Academy sells it under the "Monarch" house brand. Box says
2903 fps...

I bought some of the PPU 150 grain PSP to have it on hand to shoot invasive feral hogs with my M-1 Garand, if need be. But after I got it I did some research and discovered that the muzzle velocity is about 2906 fps. IMHO, that would appear too hot for my Garand. When I fired it in my 1903A3, it had quite a bit more kick than HXP M2 ball.

While that is not a scientific study, it seems too hot for the Garand, so I would not shoot it in mine without an over bored or adjustable gas plug.

Just my 2 cents, others might feel comfortable shooting it in their Garands, but I do not.

As always, I am open to correction and opposing views.
