Default HXP Accuracy?

What kind of accuracy have people been getting with surplus Greek HXP M2 Ball cartridges? I'm especially interested in lots from the 1970's.

I think it depends on what rifle you're shooting. 2-3" with a Garand and 1.5" with my 1903A3 at 100 yards.

some lots are good, some are crap. If anyone can get 2 inch group with all 8 rds they are doing extraordinary

Thanks everyone. I bought a can of HXP 30-06 a few years back and still have most of it. I fired two clips the other day through a Garand and my experience was pretty much in line with what you three have said; i.e., 2 ~ 3 inch groups at 100 yards.

My cartridges all date from 1973 ~ 1977 so it's not the freshest stuff around but it all goes "bang".

I'll be loading the cases with 155 grain Nosler Custom Competition bullets that I hope give better groups.

This is a group I shot back in 2008 with a M98 Mauser I built in 30/06. Unfortunately, due to disability and five back surgeries, I don't get to do much shooting. I know one group doesn't tell a lot but that day I shot four 5-round groups and all were under 1 1/2". I'd like to do more testing with HXP and other surplus ammo vs. my handloads but now that's wishful thinking.

Its shoots good groups with the right ammunition. I just wanted to get a cheap 30-06 rounds so I can go to the range with it and not waste my hunting ammunition.

I saw that earlier when I was online. I've found other places that have it too just a little more expensive. I just wanted to see if anybody had any experiences with it. Thanks for your help!

Default HXP Lots

In my experience, some of the most accurate years of HXP were made in the 60's that came in 20rd boxes all same lot in spam cans. Shot some pretty good groups out of M1s and 1903 rifles with that fodder. Seem to remember years 64 and 65.

With the 200 rd loose mixed dates and lots in cans that the CMP once sold it was just delinked blasting ammo that never produced any decent groups even when sorted by year. Found 77 dated HXP (same lot) to be above average in typical HXP accuracy. Clemenza
