Thanks so much, Barry.

Any idea what the WH Marble reference means? I tried looking it up but cannot find anything.

Default 1911 Colt

Can anyone out there who has access to the SRS books check Colt 1911 serial number 237717. I know it was manufactured 1/1918 and shipped to Springfield Armory on 2/19/1918. Just wondering if any more history is available.
Thanks,
Tom

No hits in the SRS books and nothing really close. Suggest submitting a request for a letter with Colt.

It's a stretch, but maybe it has something to do with Marble sights. Webster L. Marble was the founder, but his sons name was William (middle name unknown) and he took over the company in 1930. Like I said, a stretch.

I've held off asking, but wouldn't it be cool to get a hit? Here are my first three:

Krag 162772
M1917 Eddystone 944247
M1917 Eddystone 1313322

No hits in the SRS books on your rifles. Closest to your Krag is "162768 98R 99 Co K 27th US VOL INF". While there is no direct correlation, your rifle is within a range of serial numbers listed as assigned to various US VOL INF units.

Nothing really close on your M1917's but, your 1313322 does fall within the range of a large listing of rifles shown as having been with the Shanghai Volunteer Corps in June of 1934. An example is "1313125 E 063034 Shanghai Volunteer Corps".
