As everyone is aware match ammo is a bit pricey. I plan on aquiring an 8 pound jug of powder and want input on the most versatile for 223 with 75 to 80 grain, 308 with 168 to 175 grain and 30-06 with 168 to 175 grain. I am leaning towards Varget but also like H4895. I have also had good luck with N540 in 223 and 308. All are gas guns and I need to stay in that gas generation band width. Any thoughts or should I just keep using different powders for that last bit of accuracy?

You'll probably get a lot of suggestions for Varget since it is a very good all around rifle powder (for the mentioned calibers). I started out and stayed with IMR4064. I use it in .308, .30'06, and .223 and I have found loads that shoot in each caliber fairly easily. For the .30 calibers its been for 168-180gr bullets, for the .223 60gr.

You can add .22-250 and .375 H&H to the list of calibers that IMR4064 works very well with.

Lot of folks use Varget, I haven't yet.
I can attest to Win 748, Reloader 15 and AA2520 for 223, 308 and 06. |

I have used Varget and IMR 4064 with good results in the following cartridges:
.30-06 (match loads - 4350 gives more oomph for hunting loads, but keep 4350 away from your M1) .308 and 7.62x51 .300 Savage .223 and 5.56 .222 Rem

Thanks for the info. I mostly shoot 223 and 308 in NRA matches but like shooting the Garands too. I'm leaning towards Varget from other competitors comments but wasn't sure about the gas pressure at the port of a Garand. Thanks for the help.

Varget is suitable for the M1.
