They are what they are. I get the impression that a lot (most?) are being supplied from the CMP inventory. The pics of the ones I have seen are mostly 80's era magazines.

Mine from the CMP were dated 91 and 92.

I believe that the magazine that I received with my pistol was WW2 vintage

CMP sold recently manufactured magazines, as pictured above. Ten per year for approximately two years...then they stopped sales. I believe this was about the time the release of the 1911’s looked to be a possibility. So it would make sense that they are now being supplied with the pistols...at least partially!!

New to 1911's.
I know they can be finicky with bad mags. Will just be for range use (so don't need $45 Wilson Combat). Was going to order Colt or Mec-Gar (have good results with Mec Gar for my Sig's). Any difference with the 7 or 8 round? Is 7 the "standard" or orginal? Would 8's have any worse feeding or reliability? Are 8 rounders flush fit in the frame or do they stick out (pics make them look same as 7 so I assume flush) Any other recommended mags? Just for range use, not life or death, but I also don't want to be dealing with jams and reliability problems. Don't need extended/high capacity. |

Order the Mec-Gars if that is what you like.
7 is the standard, but the 8's are reliable. Usually a bumper pad will make the 8's stick out some. I have numerous "range mags" that are pretty reliable, some old 7's, some marked, others are not marked, and several 8's. You can also try Joe's Mag Mania (sells thru E-bay) at a decent price, I believe these are the Chip McCormack brand. http://joes1911magmania.net/shop/ Good luck!
