Default Best Use IMR 8208 XBR

Acquired a couple 8 pounders of 8208 from auctions recently. Looks like good stuff, granules identical to BenchMark, so it should meter well. I'm looking for the best use for these jugs in short and mid range match loads, 223, 308 and 30-06 mainly, although I do load almost everything in the book. Studied comments welcomed. Good Shooting. ....

8208 became more popular during the Varget and RL15 shortages a few years ago.

It's been extremely accurate, and clean burning in .223 applications. Common accuracy node is 22.8ish to 23.4ish under 77 and 80 SMKs. Id start with 23.0. I've seen it behave relatively stable, but in extreme temps (110+)...it certainly picks up some pressure.

YMMV

When you find some decent loads, post them.
I have had a couple of 8# cans for 2 or 3 years now.
Varget and RL-15 seem to do the job.

Interesting topic.

I too have an 8-pounder I bought a while back. I'm sure I had something in mind at the time, but now don't have a clue what I was planning to do with it.

23.3 behind 77gr smk is a very productive start if you have a 1-8 twist or tighter.

I use it for my AR loads in 5.56/223, 204 Ruger, 6.5 Grendel (same hole groups), 6.5X6.8 (same hole groups) and tinkered around with for my 6.8 SPC and wildcat 6.8 GPC. Excellent powder that meters very well.

Great for 69 smks in 223. Meters wonderfully from progressives. I couldn't get it to work well for 77+ bullets in an ar match barrel. Too much pressure.
