Default Sa -13 Op Rod Question

Looking at a field grade I got some time ago, I noted it had a cut SA -13 operating rod with a very worn tab. I am considering sending it off to have the tab rebuilt, but Canfield says that -13's are "Rare" and perhaps used for rebuilds. How rare are these, and what would be the best thing to do. Thanks in advance.

SA -13 was used in very very late WW2 rifles. I wouldn't quite call them rare but definitely uncommon. After the war SA designed and built the D35382 specifically for use in the massive post war M1 rebuilding program so your -13 was not used in new production rifles for very long.

Many folks think the -13's never got abroad before the end of the war, albeit they apparently did leave the armory.

They're unusual/rare, but I see no reason not to rebuild/refinish.

A lot of folks are convinced they were being "safety relieved" before first installation at the armory, as the slowdown in production meant assembly schedules more-or-less dissolved after V-E Day. Others are bewildered by the number of such rifles bearing mostly 1946 date barrels, earliest T105 sights, and modified/cut operating rods. MAYBE, goes the yarn, they left ca.1947-48. None of this is for sure, but it is true a lot of the rifles in the high "wartime" serial number ranges seem to carry a lot of "postwar" upgrades without seeming to have been "rebuilt/refurbished".

Actual point: If you enjoy it, heck, have the work done. It's yours, if you want to have it powder coated magenta, don't worry about it.

unusual/not common but no real demand for them. I would rebuild it if needed

Guess I'll send it off. Folks seem to recommend Columbus Machine Works. Are there other good options?

The Q is...why there are uncut -13's as well as earlier (-3, -6, -9 cut/uncut) op rods. Those cuts were field or arsenal mods.

Default Uncut -13 op rods

I sold the uncut -13 op rod I got a Greek return rifle many years ago. It sold for a quite of bit of(at that time) money.
