No reports are bad reports. Not worth the drive to chance. Guess I'll use an agent for a FG or RG. Good luck to all!

Default Actual store report - 29 May

Yes gentlemen...I do have a favorable report.

Stopped by the store this morning with the wife on our way from Georgia to Oklahoma. A forum member had asked my assistance in getting some data on the drill rifles they have.
Arrived right at 0800 and two gentlemen ahead of me got the only 3 SA FGs that had been put out since last Saturday. One was a 3.3 with original '45 barrel...didn't get to see what the other two were.
Leon was the only one behind the counter...we talked for a little while. He didn't think anymore rifles would be brought out. Melody came out and we talked for a bit...shaping up for an uneventful day.

Before collecting data on the rifles, I took a quick inventory of what was there:
- Nine SA CMP Specials (.30-06) remained, plus a whole rack full plus some of the HRA CMP Specials in .308
- Still a crap-ton of drill rifles, both the $345 and $500 variety.
- Still a few racks of the Daisy drill rifles
IMPORTANT NOTE: All of the ones in the rack are $150, even the ones missing slings or having the front band secured by duct tape! I erroneously reported last week the latter were $99.95. My apologies.
- A handful of the used Daisy air rifles
- Several used M14 stocks
- Several 10" bayonets and the same two SA and UC 16" M1905 bayonets.
- 14 FG And 1 RG M1Ds / 3 NM models / The M1C rack was EMPTY!!
- Still 16 cans of the 250-rd belted British ammo, a bunch of the Aguila carbine ammo, and various other boxes
- A few empty wooden ammo crates (WRA, SL & LC).

Got to the business of checking the drill rifles and found a few interesting items:
- A 4.5 IHC with a 6/53 LMR barrel, as well as both a HRA and an SA with 2/53 & 1/53 LMR barrels, respectively
- A 1.0 SA with a Winchester barrel
- Several 6-digits with their original barrels, earliest a 10/41, stamped upside down
- A few rifles with pre-production HRA replacement barrels, the earliest dated 8/51
- A 2.2 SA with a 4/53 Marlin barrel!
As I said before, enough to make one shed a tear.

In the middle of all that, 3 more customers came in, all lamenting the lack of SG or FG selection.
Just as I finished up what I was doing, Leon announced they would be bringing out 24 SA FGs!!!
I stuck around to see how they looked.

Here's the executive summary:
One had a nice SA/GAW-stamped stock with Ogden (OG) stamp.
Another had a nice SA over R open-box stamp.
Another had a decent DAS.
A few with stocks drilled for a grenade launcher sight, and one with the base actually mounted.
A couple of 6-digits, one with lockbar sights (2C).
Several '45-era receivers with original barrels
Several with post-war barrels (incl one HRA barrel)
One very nice 5.3 with what appeared to be an original 7/54 barrel
All-in-all, most in great shape, only thing keeping them from SG status would be barrel readings.

I ended up getting a 6-digit with lead-dipped heal (and cancelled the drill rifle I had purchased last week). Has a post-war 10/51 barrel reading 4/5+ but I already have a couple new barrels.
One gentleman purchased a CMP Special and a couple FGs. Two other customers both got a couple of the FGs (one of which included the SA/GAW stock).
When we departed, there were 17 left. Leon and Jeremy did not think there would be anymore today or tomorrow.

Of course, as we pulled out of the parking lot around 1100, a van with 5 military guys in uniform pulled in and they dam near stampeded each other trying to get in the door.
So, not sure what is left as of COB...recommend calling before taking a trip.

Hated to go, got to meet and talk with another great person & Garand aficionado...an active duty Army guy who drove down while house-hunting. But, already looking forward to returning in the Fall.

Regards,
Rob

ETA: Actually able to load a pic of the FGs:

Damn, I should have played hooky. I love SA Field grades. I got a Jan 45 receiver w a Jan 45 barrel last time that measured 2/2.

May take off this afternoon and shoot it along with my new to me Smith Corona 1903-A3!
