Default mounting rear sight on AR-15

When mounting a Magpul rear sight for windage on an AR-15, what is the ideal distance from the rear sight to the front sight?

I like to mount mine as far to the rear as possible, to get the aperture as close to my eye as possible. Changing the distance between front and rear sights will affect the value of each click, but not by much. I recommend you experiment and pick the position that gives you the best sight picture and performance on target.

Yes, as far back as possible.
You want the aperture close to your eye (as rcolarco points out) and the longest sight radius, for better accuracy.
