Default 1 gun ,2 days, and alot of work

Picked out my FG-HRA (field grade Harrington Richardson Arms) Garand last saturday.
My son-in-law accompanied me to Shangrila south and received his baptism to the M1 world with a nice snap on his thumb, "I told you to be careful".

What a wonderful place !Where else can you find such helpful friendly people who share a common interest. You can stay and peruse the store unmolested by sales people. Its like a walk through the history channel.AAAhhhh....

Fast forward to tuesday A.M. Fedex truck pulls up and I was outside to meet him.Sign for my M1 and run for the boxcutter.A voice from the past yells "you'll shoot somebodys eye out".Ignoring the voice I free my new friend from her prison.
Covered in grease and years of grime I get right to work.Hot soapy water and dishwashing liquid starts the process.Hoppes #9 gets the bore to shine (30patches later)sureI could've used something more aggresive but you gotta treat a lady nice.
Stocks drying in the sun and ready for a dark walnut stain. She had an orange
coating that didn't match the walnut handguards.
Next day a coat of polyurethane satin and then the wait to dry mmmm. While I wait A little bronze paint to highlight my new aquisitions origin (she took her first breath a short drive from where I grew up in Mass.
Stocks dry so I use some spray wax and 000 steel wool to get the finish deglossed and remove the razor stubble.
I assemble all her parts and fit them back together applying a light coat of grease where she needs it.She is a sight to behold!! Talk about aging with grace half a century and still lookin' sharp!!

But for the life of me I can't figure out where she got that "2" stamped on her grip??? Oh well I like a little mystery in my women.
