Easiest route is to reload or “Mexican match” ball by pulling the fmj and replacing with a similar weight soft point

I use the Garand Gear ported gas plug, simple, works with all ammo with no messing around adjusting. I like the Cabela's brand Herters 150g SPCE soft point ammo. It shoots pretty good in my M1s and 03A3s, makes a nice sharp round hole in the target, similar to a wad cutter. About $15 per 20 and on sale a lot. Lately they started stocking the individual Garand safe PPU boxes for $13 but they are FMJ and are supposed to be pretty consistent. Plus we have a Cabela's credit card that gives me $20 to $80 in free points every month. Just have to use it before the wife does

I put a Schuster plug in a 308 and a 30-06 garand so I could shoot up 8 lbs of H414 powder. Left them fully open to cycle them manually. Accuracy was excellent so now I plan to adjust to cycle reliably and use it up. Am using 125 gr Speer TNT projectiles. Love the Schuster!

LOL....."not allow FMJ."

So, if I cut off (file off) the tip of the bullet, does it become something else?

Can I call it, "Cut Tip Match?"

Aloha, Mark

Bore obstruction maybe, if the core blows out. 😬

Have you pressed the issue with the range regarding FMJ that does not attract a magnet?

What about Ceresco's 110 and 125 grain ammo?

It could be that your range does not allow any ammo that has a magnetic projectile. Determine if that is the reason, and not just because it is FMJ. There are many military loaded Ball ammo with magnetic jacketed bullets and those that are
non-magnetic.

Do your local ranges allow hollow point ammo?
If so, hornady 155 grain bthp run GREAT in my M1 if you wish to reload

Default Garand and Soft Point hunting Ammo.

If you buy a schuster gas plug for around $35.00 then keep your military gas plug, you don't need to keep adjusting the plug. Just take out the one and put in the other. Really simple.

good luck!
Have used Schuester gas plus for years. Very Happy with it. You can definitely dial in your brass ejection. Also you can eliminate the dented M1 case necks completely...
