The only detail not mentioned here is that the Remington produced '03 rifles started with serial number 3,000,000. One of my RA '03's has a 10-41 barrel and a 3001756 SN along with New Zealand stock markings, finger groove stock, lightning cut rear sight base milled parts and all. The marines carried the '03 in many battles.....just one example, Guadalcanal.

John, as an aside.....I took a "History of Motion Pictures" class my last semester of college for an "easy" grade (not so easy). The professor stated and proved that the Monkey Soldiers were chanting, "Oh we love the Old One" as they carried their prisoners into the witches castle. If we could have heard that chant more clearly it would have set up the melting witch scene that came later a lot better. Anyway, since that movie was released in 1939, I am betting the initial viewers had no idea of the horrors that were just getting started on the world stage. Fantasy verses reality. More useless information than you ever wanted to know!

I'm sooo glad - we'd be having discussions on "unissued" brooms, brooms appearing on SRS, "restored" brooms, "Bubba" brooms ...

Did the Marines only use the 03 in guatocanal? Did they use some 03A3s too? Where there many armed conflicts that they would have used the A3? I personally like the look and sight of the A3 better, but a military rifle that was used in battle has it's own kind of appeal.

Marines landed at the Canal with '03's. Army troops landed with Garands. It didn't take the Marines long to figure that mistake out. No '03-A3's at the Canal.

M1903A3s were not available in quantity until early 1943. I have seen pictures of sailors with 03A3s later in the war.

JPM, I hope you have that full-auto broom registered with the BATF!! LOL!!
