Default 1903a3 front sight rules

For the Springfield cmp match/games
Can the front sight protective hood remain on the rifle in a match. It was brought up and in the time we where all chatting no one found it in the rule book before we cleared out of the hall.

mac--always start with the (CMP Games version) rule book. CMP has it online in the competition section. Your question is covered on pg 29. What happens at inspections, what others post on these forums and what you hear are all subject to speculation and mistakes. I find a BIC lighter solves the glare problem and a hood promotes crossfiring.... Good Shooting. ...

I have one for my 03a3 and don't like it. I want as much light on the front sight as I can get. I smoke it up so it doesn't glare.I shoot much better without it. I have a USMC #10 on mine and it is undercut. I swear I think you could gut a deer with it it is so sharp. The front sight cover would help that though. Different strokes......

Thank you , I did not actually see which rule book they where thumbing through. I will look for myself. I don't always remove mine and can't say it hurts or helps. The issue was legal or not to leave it on for the match.

I have the thick front sight and the USMC Bill Benz hood on my 03 its great.

I find it a lot faster to pick up in rapid and easier for my eyes to focus on the front sight. I still soot the sight i dont really consider it a sun shade . FWIW its more a "makes my life easier" thing its not going to bump your scores up 10 points
