Default carbine shoots high

Thanks for all of the help and advice recently for my new (to me) M1 Carbine.

I'm driving into Anchorage for some WW- 296 to do some reloading. Perhaps it will be cleaner than the Aguilla ammo. I want to work up to about 14.6 grains with a 110 FMJRN.

Anyway, with all ammo, the rifle shoots high with the rear sight all the way down....any tricks????

I use a Remington 110 gr FMJ RN bullets with 15 gr W-296 and a CCI SRP - produces a good round but check a reloading manual like Lee's Modern Reloading . All that Aquila brass you are generating clean up well and are good casings - I am on my 3rd reload with some.

Install a new front sight with a taller blade. Sometimes in rebuild activities front sights are replaced and little if any attention is paid to sighting them in, unlike the sight in activities that ocurred with new carbines. That may not be the answer you want to hear, but it is the mostly likely solution. Other ammo will likely shoot even higher than Aguilla, which is about a couple hundred fps under spec.

Does anyone have a source for new front sights? They are sold out everywhere I look. This is a very common problem.

First of all, check the manuals before you load 296 that light. I think the minimum charge-weight in the books is 14.8 grains. WW296 is one of those powders where you toss the exact charges they put down.

Slower ammunition will print higher. Aquila(Sp) is about 200-250fps below Milspec velocity of 1900fps 78 feet from the barrel, that's around 1950-1975 fps at the muzzle. Before you start changing out parts, try some ammo with the correct velocity, ideally, try to find some Lake-City milsurp, 52 or 53.
