Default North Store Report 09/19/12 (rifle pics added)

I had business in Fremont this morning, so I decided to block off more time and fit in a quick trip to the North Store. Being self-employed may mean never retiring, but hey, at least I can go to the North Store when I want to.

I got there about 8:45, with one object in mind - finding another 60s-era rebuild in USGI birch. Yes, that's pretty specific, but recent reports indicated there might be a few of them in the SG racks. That was not the case, unfortunately.

The Service Grades were quite nice, mostly because they had new stocks - CMP walnut, with the occasional CMP orange birch mixed in. I believe all of the SA rifles had new stocks, but a few of the HRAs were in USGI wood; most of the HRAs were also Greek black. A few of these rifles had the AF tags and showed National match parts. The SG rack was mostly full.

I moved on to the Field Grade racks to look for anything interesting, and I'll be darned if I didn't find it. I ran across a WWII rifle, number 333xxxx, with the original 1944-dated barrel. The hang tag readings were quite good, so I took it up to the counter, and a closer look revealed a curved, uncut oprod. That was the clincher! The metal finish looks original and unGreeked, and the stock set looks like USGI birch, but is unmarked except for what appear to be rack numbers on the top of the wrist.

The Field Grade rack was full on both sides, and there were some decent rifles to be had, but nothing spectacular. I must admit that I've been spoiled by finding so many nice rifles in the racks over the past couple of years, and the FG stocks on the rifles out today seemed pretty well used overall. I noticed a number of Danish stocks in the FG rack, but the numbers on the stock didn't match the receiver number on any of the rifles.

I gave the other racks only cursory examination. There were many of the Specials in CMP walnut, thee Mann accuracy devices, a decent number of WRA rackers, and the same full racks of M1Cs. The wood on those is so nice that I'm always tempted to fondle them, but the price tag helps me to resist.

I enjoyed chatting with Jim, Frank, and the guys, and the lovely Melissa got me checked out in no time. An hour or two at the North Store beats an hour or two working, especially if you leave with a rifle!

Thanks for the report! Were there any un-greeked M1Cs in the rack? The temptation grows stronger since I already have a scope and mount.

WRA rackers? I went to the South Store a week ago looking for them. NONE! No WRA FGs either.

I talked with Frank about that very subject. He said they have no definite news, though it does sound as though the IHCs will be available sometime in the not-too-distant future. He was not certain if they would get any at the North Store.
