I've been offered a JRA sniper with 10 rounds through it
At a good price. I've got a new Malcolm USMC scope with the new Unertl style mounts and blocks sitting in boxes now. Anyone know if the new Unertl block mounting holes are the same as the Lyman copies previously used by JRA ? Also, how have the JRA's held up under competition and normal use? Was originally going to send my 1903 over to CMP for mods but this rifle came up unexpectedly. Thanks |

I will say they are different, that receiver is really hard metal and very difficult to drill, CMP has the equipment and the plugging ability. Problem with the shop at CMP they are busy, you might contact MilTech in California, they might do it.

If I recall barrels are Criterion (well known quality), remaining parts are USGI and repro (stock metal, etc.). Bolts, triggers, are all USGI, If you want a shooter andf\ the price is right they are a great deal. Check the stock fit and head to the range. JH |

The holes could well be the same - but - I think you are overthinking this. You don't need new blocks to use the new mounts - same lash up at the TOP, where they clamp together. At least I recall Fecker, Lyman and Unertl could be dropped on any rifle with standard (not "POSI") mounts, pretty much interchangably.
Just drop the scope with the new Competition Mounts on and tighten it down. If you ever do need a special hole spacing so you don't have to drill new holes, contact Steve Earle and he will send you brand new beautiful Unertl blocks made to order with any hole spacing you want. Thank you gentlemen. I have the JRA now along with a new scope and the taller Unertl style comp. Mounts. Going to switch scope and mounts this coming weekend.
