I’m not a competition shooter, but my H&R M12 gave me a 0.8 inch group with ten shots at 100 yards (benchrest with a Redfield scope) a few years back. I’ve got a 52C, a 52D, a Kimber, a 40XB and 40X, and a Springfield M2. Maybe I just got lucky that day....

My Kimber Model 82 target rifle with a scope and shot from a bench rest could put all shots in the x-ring of a 50 foot target, but fired from 75 feet distance.
I shoot Federal long rifle hollow points. |

I have a cmp 40XB. I have shot several 1/2" to 5/8" 5 shot groups at 100 yards with it using quality ammo.

The most accurate CMP .22 I own is the Kimber 82. Honerable mention is the pair of Mossberg M42s I got. The trigger is less than ideal, but with a little practice they do pretty well.

Agreed! I have a Kimber 82 and a 40XB, among others but my 40XB will outshoot my 82 most often though slightly. For some reason I feel more comfortable with the 40. maybe has something to do with it. Also seems to shoot better with a wider variety of ammo. I will say I cleaned the crown up on the 40 after I had it some time and it made a difference. Not as accurate but will hold its own is my Win 75 with lyman sights, also a favorite of the grandkids because not as heavy as the 82 or 40.

I thought is was a Winchester M52D that I bought in Dec. 2004 from CMP. But my smallest measured groups is 0.167" Center to Center by an Kimber 82G using SK Standard Plus at 50 yards with the iron sights on April, 29, 2011. Yes, I have the target. It is a keeper.

Kimber. Still shoot 4position matches. Used wolf match until they swithed to eley primers. Gonna try eley match this year.
Won a lot of 100y prone and bench with the 40x though. 44 |

I bought a 513T from the CMP in 2005. They were $100 at the time, and advertised as "no sights, no magazine." But mine came with sights. Don't know if that was common, or if mine slipped through the cracks.
I'm not a great prone shooter, but I've shot a handful of 50 yard cleans with it, prone/cotton sling/canvas jacket/iron sights. I contend its the best 100 dollar bill I've ever spent. Wonderful rifle. Last edited by champ0608; 10-31-2020 at 10:34 PM. |
