The 1903 Mark I that I recently acquired has a punch mark ahead of the serial number. I looked online, and don't see that on any listed for sale. Will try to post pics. It's an interesting rifle with an AV replacement barrel dated 12- 18, a J6 marked bolt, Kerr sling, and the correct trigger and cutoff parts. The stock seems correct with an AAO stamp. Wondering about the punch mark. Thanks, Bill
The punch mark pic is 2nd from the bottom. Some day, I hope to figure out how to post pics directly to the post. https://imgur.com/jBGnu54 https://imgur.com/36fBcsJ https://imgur.com/g6gN2QS https://imgur.com/J7jCTEO https://imgur.com/nIaASsY https://imgur.com/JOgc8E9 Last edited by 2908; 01-24-2021 at 01:26 PM. |

Funny. I have a Mark 1 also correct, stock, cuttoff, trigger and sear, also with an AV barrel. SA/SPG boxed cartouche. Also has the original SA Cartouche also.

Would you mind posting a picture of that stock? It looks like it has great colors

Does your rifle have a left side gas escape hole in the receiver ring, commonly referred to as a Hatcher Hole? Please advise.
Thanks! J.B. Last edited by John Beard; 01-25-2021 at 01:12 PM. |

No hole on the left side, but one on the same side as the serial number.

Here are pics of the action on both sides. Top is the right side, and bottom is the left side.
Is the punch mark a firing proof? https://imgur.com/277Hlp5 https://imgur.com/0uCylJR |

The dimple in front of your serial number is similar to a mark most often attributed to hardness testing done by the Marines. I don't think the Marines had any Mark I receivers however, but of course, I could be wrong.
