Question Vintage sniper match question

Since the CMP has authorized 03A4 shooters to substitute commercial Weaver K2.5 scopes, why hasn't the same "waiver" been issued for the Weaver 8x50 scope to substitute for the Unertl 8x scope used on the M1941 USMC 1903 sniper rifle?

If 2.5x is 2.5 x then 8x is 8x.

With replica copies of Weaver M73 and Unertl scopes for sale , I don't see a reason why any scope that does not replicate the military scope be authorized but CMP has chosen to allow Weaver K2.5 to be used and that opened the gates for this becoming a scoped surplus rifle match instead of the original intent of vintage sniper match.

IIRC, the Weaver K2.5 was an issue item in the '60s for the M1D and probably the M1903A4.

Not CMP but consider this:
CMP updates rules based on specific requests to the rules committee.
Perhaps no one has petitioned to use that scope?
Asking on an open forum to defend something they have never been asked is probably not going to get a response.
As others have successfully done, make a request as per the notes in the rule book, including supporting documentation (where/when used or why it is needed).
That is precisely how the rules are updated.

New guy to all this, but isn't the cutoff 1953?

Yes, the cut off is 1953. Weaver K4-60's were used on M1D's in the late 60's but there is no evidence I can find that indicates that the same scopes were ever officially installed on M1903A4's. The 1970 TM indicates that at that point in time the official scope for the M1903A4 was the M84 2.2X scope.

No reply from CMP. Used to be, the CEO would come on line and answer questions.

And things change. The current CEO has commented on this, and CMP has provided other avenues for questions.

Used to be you could order 1 rifle per lifetime. Used to be you placed and order and 6-18 months later a rifle would arrive.
