Default Mossberg 42MB(a) value

Good evening all,
Attended a small gun show today and a gentlemen had a Mossberg 42MB(a) for sale. Blueing on metal parts was very good(8/10) Front sight was hooded and it had a Mossberg No4 peep-sight on the rear. Wood stock was in excellent condition, no dings, dents, etc.(9/10). Had correct clip/magazine. Gentlemen was asking $225.00 for it. What say you...yea or nea? I got his info, so i can call him and tell him if i am interested or not in rifle. Wish I understood how to post pics on here. Imgur wont allow pics from a tablet! Thanks for your input.

Was it U.S. Government marked on top of the barrel? If so then sounds like a pretty good deal, and if he’s asking $225 then you may be able to get it for even less.

Yes, it was stamped US Property in two locations. In front, or on, the receiver(dont remember) and on the forward third of the barrel. Along with the serial number, in both locations.

A gentleman would not ask more than $200.

Very common for the trapdoor to break off.

Would anyone have a pic of the buttplate with this feature? I would appreciate it.

actually the butt plate with the door for the spare mag was earlier production..they went to the regular type butt plate mid production and believe they ended production mid war...you can check for british proof marks to see if your rifle ever went across the pond...
