Carbine prices spiking at shows!

This last year the average price of selling carbines has been $1100-1200 at several shows. Yes buying at that price.

Atlanta/Gainesville, GA area shows: Inland carbines as a "Base Index"-- Mediocre condition [you just want to dump it for cash. 50-75% finish 'mixmaster'] $700.00+.
Nice Italian return, 95%+, still mixed parts $1000. Other mfg that are 90+% add 10-20% [still mostly mixed parts, late sight, low wood]. Very, very few early, flip, 'correct' carbines seen at last 3 shows I have been to and condition not, in my opinion, anything I would pay big $$$ for. And, not many carbines on tables.
My opinion? Carbines are holding value and increasing since CMP supply dried up. If Inlands sold for <$500 via CMP when Italy returned them, you decide what they are worth to you. Relative to condition: "What condition do YOU want and what would YOU pay?" Shows are one thing, lucky find from an estate something else entirely.
*CMP auction prices for carbines may be a premium over what YOU might find or pay, but someone wants it and will pay whatever it takes.
A piece of junk is worth junk prices; a keeper...?

Seems that prices on shooters have somewhat stabilized on auction sites. Of course, some ask collector prices for a shooter, but one can be had for $700-$800 generally. At a recent show, one dealer had all his marked $1100 and up. By the time the show was ending, he had dropped to “make-an-offer”.

i am moving to SC and I am hoping to get a carbine...cant own them in NJ

I am cool with a mixmaster, just want a nice usgi rifle that I can shoot. are these gonna be expensive ?

Nickg, Greenville and Columbia, SC have shows that you may find a decent carbine at an acceptable price.

Out here on the west coast at the last Reno show in July, I didn't see a single M1 carbine under $1000. Last November at the same show there where several nice non-import mixmasters in the $750-$900 range as the asking price. M1 carbines are shortly going to be the same price range as a 1911 at this show.

I bought an M1 carbine here in MA for...700 dollars, on consignment at an LGS. This was 2011ish. At shows, I have seen them at 1000+ for some time. Gun prices are gun prices but region does have an impact.

I just picked up two carbines this year near Fayetteville,NC. 1 inland no import marks for 750, the other a Winchester Bavarian return for $800. Both were at shops and on consignment .

NoCal. I haven't seen a carbine for sale at local gun shows, Vallejo and Sacto for several years. The Vallejo show used to have a great Carbine guy who sold hundreds over the years. Our one local gun store has a complete POS carbine that has had a barrel muzzle welded to make it legal. It is not worth owning at any price. Looks like a small child did the welding. This situation is unique to the Area Called Mexifornia Alto. and not at all like the United States.
