Default Pistol grip mark ???

I have had this stock for a few years. I purchased it from either Dupage or a forum member. I was looking through some of my excess Garand stocks to find one to put on the Garand I typically take to the range to replace the DAS stock that is currently on it.

I never noticed this stamped marking on the bottom of the pistol grip. I have been searching but I canít find anything on this. Maybe itís nothing but any information would be appreciated. Iíve also added a few pictures of the stock that may help.

Thank You for any information
Chas

Looks like a heavily stamped "flaming bomb" stamp.

Could it be a rack number “8”?

I only looked at the first pic - looking at the second picture, I think you've got it right.

Default Another difference

Another thing thing I noticed on this stock is the holes in the but stock for the cleaning supplies are tapered instead of the straight cut with ridges. The barrel channel is 1.75 and the clip latch relief is cut differently than the stocks I compared it to. It is at a slight angle and is definitely not straight cut as compared to the 7 stocks that I have out that Iím trying to decide what to do with.

It is an early stock and I am no expert but to me it looks like the barrel channel was modified so I wouldn’t be surprised that this was an early SA with the long channel. The clip latch cut looks added by carving (scooped type) as opposed to milled and that points to an early stock too. As for the trap area, I have at least one stock like that where the open ending was cut at an angle. I am not sure which gun it’s on so I can’t post a photo easily.
