Default A Couple of M1 ?s

When matching components with serial numbers, what is the proper date range?

What is the source and usage of the U, 5, and MXR safety?

How do you tell the manufacturer or triggers and trigger guards?

U, 5, and MXR safety
U- Made by United Auto found on some early post war SA and early IHC
5- never heard of or seen a 5 safety
MXR -found on some late SA Garands and on M14's

How do you tell the manufacturer or triggers and trigger guards?

to much to go into detail.Kind of a broad question, are you asking about WWII or Post War?

If a receiver is manufactured in july 1945, would the component parts be dated 3 months prior or 3 months post, generally?

I found a lot of good info on ammogarand.com.

I received a 5 marked safety about 2 years ago. I posted a pic on the forum for info but nobody could tell me anything about it.

HRA triggers have a slimmer profile (when viewed from the side) than the other makers.

"When matching components with serial numbers, what is the proper date range"

Wow. Now that is a question best answered by buying the books that tell you these things. It would take a year and 1000 posts to explain it all here.

One of my U safeties has an I without serif punched at the top. Could that be for IHC?
