When there is a difference between someone's deeply held beliefs and the truth, generally the truth loses. It's unfortunate but a lot of people aren't interested in learning the truth, just making themselves feel good by being "right". I don't blame cplnorton for not wanting to start another argument that nobody wins.

Default Truth and right

"Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened." and "It is a fine thing to be honest, but it is also very important to be right."

Winston Churchill quotes I thought might be apropos for this discussion. Sir Winston was not a fan of the .30-06 round. "Churchill was then shown the leading American rifle, the T25, and its more powerful T65 ammunition. He fired 11 rounds, again from the standing position, before exclaiming in typical Churchillian fashion that he “did not wish to fire the damn thing any more” because he found the recoil of the T65 ammunition too unpleasant."

Pretty well presented for the most part. Well did, Ian. The round bolt/flat bolt alteration was probably the most popularly evident point to correct, but it's a common misconception as to why it was changed.
People, use adverbs please. CORRECT: Do it quickly. INCORRECT: Do it quick. You don't say, "Go there immediate", do you?
