I believe the gov't would rather CMP fail, furthermore I believe the CMP is not supported by our tax dollars. I believe gifts and sales are the CMP's revenue stream to maintain solvency.

I personally want the North store to stay open. However economic realities may chose a different path. The dwindling supply of product is the biggest enemy to the North and South stores remaining open. Once the Garand's are exhausted like the Carbines and Springfields before them, the CMP mission will need to change drastically. The "new" mission....I believe; focusing on Marksmanship only and no longer refurbishing the rifles we love at an extremely reasonable cost.

Not since the first week of June when I and about 70 other people spent the night in the parking lot or arrived well before dawn to pilfer the 96 IHC rifles on hand............

That ship has done sailed back in June. The chances of IHC at the stores any time soon are between slim and none and slim has done left town.

If they do, the bulk will go to the SS and even then will only be non-lmr's

Default North Store

I agree that Bob, Frank, Jim can repair M1's. There is decades of knowledge of military rifles with the North Store Crew. I have no doubt than can do anything the shop down south can do! Now I feel bad I have not made it there much lately. My wife just thinks the world of that crew! They make you fell at home!

Gentlemen, We must all keep in mind the mission of the CMP - marksmanship training and competition. Selling surplus rifles and ammo existed to support that mission but are not the mission itself. I have confidence that Mark Johnson will make his decisions based on what is best for the CMP and its mission. If that leads to closing of the stores, that will be an overall unhappy situation for many folks - mostly for the employees of the stores. I would suggest that we do our best to support the CMP but I do not think that putting pressure on the board regarding business decisions is appropriate. Only they know the full story and I have faith that they will make good decisions as they have in the past. Rick
