Default NRA sporter ?

Not sure my threads are getting published, thank you for the assistance.

Does this serial number match the DCM records for a NRA sporter?

1366706

Thank you
Stan

Default NRA sporter ?

Thanks I have recently come across these NRA sporters. Rick has been kind enough to help me document that two of them in my collection are NRA sporters (serial number 1262185 & 1255612). They are from 1923 & 1924)

Just thought I would ask the group to help with this serial number:

Is this an NRA sporter?

1366706

Thanks

Default NRA Sporter?

Thanks for the responses.
Couple of weeks back Rick checked DCM records for two numbers:

(B) 1262185 SPT 052424 DCM RIFLE SALES 1922-42 (B)
1255612 SPT 061423 DCM RIFLE SALES 1922-42

Rick said they were both NRA sporters. Then Steve informed me that SPT means Special Target?

"actually comes back as a special target in Frank's notes. But when you look at the SA descriptions of the rifles, they actually labeled all the types of rifles as Special Target, but then the different makes. Like Special Target, NRA sporter for example. So it could be a nra sporter, and Frank mallory saw it labeled as a Special Target.Without seeing the original sales document or seeing the rifle it's hard to say.
Steve

Two questions: How likely is it that these guns are sporters? What is the (B) in the serial number of the first gun mean? Was that just op attempt to bold the serial number?

Thanks

Stan

SPT is NRA sporter, ST is Special Target. SG is star Gauged , Special Target rifles are standard service type rifles that had some match prep, and star gauged barrel on some

In Mallory's original booklet entitled Summary of DCM Rifles, 1922-1942, he lists more
codes than chuckindenver mentioned above. One code is NMB for 1903 National Match in the B stock. There is no code listed as SPTB but is stands to reason that this meant the rifle was an NBA sporter that was produced, I believe, in only 1926. The stock had a lot of drop at the butt and was not selling so most of the NBA Sporters had the B stock replaced with a 1922 stock. (aka the NRA Stock). I am just reading between the lines but that is a possible explanation of what the B means. If you have a Sporter in the B stock it will be quite rare. A "B" suffix was added the serial number of Model of 1922M1 rifles that were upgraded with an M2 bolt. I am just throwing that out because of the
B. I don't think it is I relevant to this thread.
