Default Who is the sling guru?

Just seeing if anyone can tell me anything about this sling. Has steel hooks and rivets with divets. Looks old.

Well, I ordered it last night on ebay for 15$ they had it listed as "vintage leather gun strap" yea, gun strap. So I though it might be an old original and they just didn't know what they had. I don't know much about it so I didn't know what they had either but I know enough to know that if it was original GI it would be a score. Plus, I just don't want a new sling on my field grade. A new sling would be fine though on my service grade with CMP stock.

Just recived the sling. Yea, it is brass. It looked like steel in the pics on my phone. Colors must be off because the leather also looked dark but it's not. But still a decent sling for the field grade. I really want to get a hunter brand old m1907 style sling for my other garand because I have a hunter on my great grandfathers kreg jorgensen that my uncle passed down to me.

Does your sling have any markings? Looks like it might be a sling for a BAR. Donít know much about them but they have hooks like that.

Commercial, but I think it's pre-WW2.

Unusual rivet setup.

Hunter is still made and easily aged.

No markings on the sling. I oiled it with balistol and it made the leather nice and supple.

I been seeing vintage hunters for sale that are nos in original package. Are you saying I can get a new one and age it to match the rifle?

You certainly can, but I wouldn't be using "Ballistol". Use neatsfoot or even olive oil, please.

I like to use ballistol for everything.. even emergency rations.. haha. But I will give the neatsfoot a try on some leather some time. Thompson is my name too.
