A local gun store has a eleven million + serial numbered Springfield M1 Garand for sale I have looked at all my Garand reference books and found no reference to such a high numbered Garand. Does anyone have any idea what that Garand is?

An extra digit must have been added before or after the real SN.

If it TRULY IS an eleven million + serial, it would be a COMMERCIAL Springfield Armory Inc. rifle.
Serials of that enterprise STARTED at #7,000,000!

The receiver of the Geneseo Garands would be stamped Springfield Armory Inc..
I would be very surprised if they made 4 million of them 20 years ago?

Are you sure you just misread the serial no. Probably a 1.1 million no. I don't even think Springfield Armory Inc. went up to 11 million on their Commercial M1 Garands .

I will double check on Tuesday when the store reopens, but three of us read
the number as 11+ million at the same time. Jim Leonard |

Well, I’m waiting to find out it was a 1.1 million as there is no such animal as an 11 million Garland.

Went back to the store (no pic's allowed), the number reads 11 million, but the number 1 on the beginning of the serial number at a closer look with flash lite is slightly different than thee next three 1's and makes the serial number look off centered. I now believe that number was added for some reason. The store is not well lite and it was not easy to detect the difference the first time visit. SORRY FOR THE FALSE ALARM.
