For what it's worth, although I recommended the Ruger American, I have a Tikka .30-06. It is a wood-stocked rifle, about 25 years old, and I have hunted with it extensively. It has a very nice trigger and is very accurate.

Some say the Ruger is hit or miss with action smoothness. The Tikka sounds like it’s good to go.
I guess I need the rifle to work for 1 hunt, so I’m not concerned about that. The cost of the Ruger is a win.
I’ll get to a few gun shows over the next few months and handle them both and see which gets the job.

Hi, I have a Tikka and have had some great groups. I have a 6.5 Creedmoor with a Steiner 5x25 scope. With reloads I have gotten .363" groups off the bench. At my club the most popular new cartridge is the 6.5. If you look at the stock vs the Ruger stock, I like the Tikka better, YMMV. Mike
