Default Russian .311 bullets in a 30-06?

I have a sizeable amount of pulled down 7.62x39 bullets and was wondering if I could size them down to .308 through a die and put together a low recoil 30-06 load.
Im not worried about pressure spikes since the AK bullet is just 13grs heavier than the 30 carbine bullet. I am worried about possible damage to the rifling or added wear.

thoughts?

My go to bullets for the past 2-3 CMP match seasons have been those 7.62x39, 123 gr. bullets you're talking about. I shoot them in my 1917 Enfield and Garand with excellent accuracy and low recoil. Your barrel will swage them easily. IMHO, they're perfectly safe to shoot and it's doubtful if they'd have any effect on your barrel.

Anyone remember when those M’98-09, Argentine Mausers came into the U.S., rechambered to 30-06?
A fellow worker bought one . . . .lousy accuracy . . . until I made some “special” ammo using .312” Hornady bullets.
He was cautioned to NOT use them in any other 30-06 rifle.

I have had good luck casting lead .311 bullets of 160 grains (that were designed for 7.62x39 rounds) and then sizing them to .309 for use in 30-06 and .308 win rounds.

Interesting. I thought you had to resize before shooting. Learn something new every day.

Brass, yes. Bullets, well, that's what the discussion is about.
