Default Aforger?

Hi
Considerind doing an A forgery on a recovered drill receiver and was wondering if the front tapped hole in receiver ring is a thru hole or blind. If blind how deep is it?

The front scope mount hole on an A4 when using the original Redfield Jr. type base is a blind hole. I'm not sure on the exact depth, but it's about a 1/4 inch deep. The rear hole is drilled through the bridge.

Not on my original 03A4 that I posted above. The forward screw is drilled into the thickest part of the rear of the front bridge, behind the recess for the upper bolt locking lug. It is definitely a blind hole as it does not extend all the way through that part of the bridge.

My notes say that the bridge is about 3/16" thick and the front hole is about 0.320" thru. At a minimum you need enough thread for your screw, and ideally you want those as long as they can be.

Yup . . . . Both forward holes go thru . . . .

In fact . . . .thatís how one can tell a fake from an original . . .

Originals will have the male thread of the barrel shank VISIBLE thru the forward-most hole in the ring . . . .something Bubba will not take the trouble to do.

He wonít remove the barrel, drill and tap, then re-install the barrel. The hole . . .after his work . . . will appear BLIND!

An 03A4 does not have two forward scope mount holes, and the hole it does have is nowhere near the barrel shank. Perhaps you are thinking about a different rifle.

Come to think on it . . . .I WAS thinking of a different rifle . . . .

The much earlier, Sporter and NM from Springfield Armory.

Iíve never removed the base from an A4.

I stand corrected!!
