Default First Trip

I am planning my first trip to the CMP South store this week. I am wondering what day is the best/least busiest day to go. I have done some homework on Garand buying, but am still very new to buying them and would like to go when its not super busy. Also, I'm active duty military. Do I still have to be a member at an individual club and complete an marksmanship requirement? What about a birth certificate? Thanks for the help.

Bring your service papers. Nothing else is required. Perhaps a US military ID is enough. I always go for Wednesday morning when it first opens. Walk in the door and go right to it. The best is usually there when the entire store is restocked. Look for SGs with excellent USGI wood as most have excellent metal and bores. That is what really gives them nostalgic feel ...top grade USGI walnut.

Best to call customer service and find out exactly what you need. Perhaps some service members will chime in. I don't know the paperwork on your end, nor the nomenclature.

I recently asked Leon what my active duty son would need if I brought him in next trip. Answer was military ID only!

Be very careful in there. The store is heavily contaminated with Garanditis. If you are anything like my son and I after our first trip, symptoms will set in about 4 hours after you get home. You will start thinking about your next trip even before you clean the guns you bought.

I know I am quite concerned about Garanditis already. I think I may already have it and I haven't even bought one yet-can't imagine how bad it can get.

If and when you retire; I am retired Air Force. I did join a club for $22, just for this, but found out my Military ID(Retired) is good enough. I was at both stores last year and they told me thats all they needed plus my drivers license.
