I believe, it would have only the last 5 or 6 digits etched on the bolt body, if that low of a S/N.

The bolt I have is penciled with the entire serial number. It's an SRS hit.

So the first serialized bolts did not have the entire number electro-penciled?

I'm guessing the first serialized NM bolts were around 1923. And to my knowledge, all NM bolts had the full serial number. Some NRA Sporter bolts, however, had only the last four digits.

John, this was a pristine 1926 NM1903, and like several others I've observed in this early range, only had the last 5.

Maybe it depended on the guy doing the etching, unless the drawing directed otherwise.

I stand corrected. I suppose most serialized NM bolts I've observed were in the later serial ranges. Thanks for the correction. That's a fine rifle!

Merry Christmas!
