Default No Rebuild Markings

Has anyone else received a pistol with no rebuild markings? I got a field grade 1911a1 that the frame was supposedly shipped to Springfield on 7-31-41 from Colt. Its got a Remington Rand slide so it's obviously not still in it's original configuration, and the finish is pretty rough. Fit and function are tight and smooth. No way it escaped rebuild, right? What would explain no marks?

My 1913 model has a 1918/1919 barrel and thumb safety, a 1943ish RR slide and lots of other 1943ish RR parts and is parkerized. Not an arsenal mark one on it.

Not all rebuilt guns were marked. Yours as described was definitely rebuilt at least once.

The nice thing is that with the CMP COA, you know it came out of Uncle Sam's possession like that, as opposed to an unpapered rebuild that could be a Bubba put-together.

Mine while obviously worked on does not appear to have been refinished.

Rebuilds/ refinished M1911A1's done at the General support Maintenance Level would not have received any rebuild markings. My CMP Feb 1944 RR was refinished and is all correct except for one grip that is post WW II manufacture. It looks just like the refinished M1911A1's we would get back from the GS maintenance company in Hanau Germany when I was in the 3D AD 77-80.

Airborne,
Mark
