Itís also extremely easy to make 7.7 brass from 30-06 or 270.

I'm not sure about 'extremely easy', but it's definitely an option. Personally, my experience with it is just 'time consuming'...and that's the bulk of it. If you have the dies and a trimmer already (easily sourced, and if you're shooting the caliber often, you literally NEED them) just lube up some 30-06 cases (try to keep from putting too much lube off the upper side where the new neck will be) and run them through your full length 7.7 Jap sizer die. Once all the brass is 'necked down', take a pipe cutter from home depot or lowes and get a basic length. Do a detail trim to size with your 30-06 trimmer attachment and VIOLA!

My best load so far is 41gr IMR4895, but you can stick to the hotter side for your first batch to 'fire form' your cases. I used 42gr of H4895 to fire form a few weeks ago and got pressure signs (flattened primers and some bleedout from one single round through the primer pocket in a batch of 20).

Every rifle/shooter is/are different...I'd start around 40gr and work your way up, and you'll find your sweet spot.

If you have any questions along the way, feel free to PM me, but don't be surprised if it takes me a few days to respond.

Good luck and enjoy! You have one of the strongest built actions of WWII and a beauty of a collector (mine also still has the mum and I cherish it, but also shoot it whenever at all possible).
