Default 1903 C stock

A rifle with this stock recently came into my possession. In going over the rifle it appears to me the stock has been sanded/modified.

There is no ďridgeĒ in the stock where the front band goes.

Iíve been scrounging around all evening in my books and on the web and I can find no reference to a C stock without that ridge.

Am I correct in my assessment that it has been removed?

Thanks for any assistance.

Jim

No idea why, but someone has sanded down the stock. Any ideas out there?

A sporter of some kind?

Or adaptation to fit another gun?

Iím not home right now to put up a photo of the rifle assembled but itís a 1903.
Other than the ridge being sanded down it has no other visual differences from any other 1903.

A picture of the barrel channel would help. A guess as to why it was sanded, the owner had a stock band from another rifle and the C stock was too large so they sanded it down for the band to fit.

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up returning the rifle. The stock being sanded down was just one of several problems discovered with the rifle.
