Default Rack Specials

Hello all. I am considering a WRA rack special for my son to use as a shooter and I am curious as to what peoples recent mail order experiences have been. I looked back through some older threads and saw some obliterated heel markings, rear sight and other issues but not much recently. I would appreciate any current feedback and/or receiver pics. I am going to sticky for clean heel marks and I also understand the adage "Past experiences do not indicate future results". I would just like a broad idea what is coming out right now. Thanks in advance

Someone recently got one with a lot of rust inside of the op-rod tube.

From what I've seen and heard the WRA heel stamp(especially the Winchester stamp) for the most part has never appeared to be that strong as compared to the SA stamp for the same era. Now take into account that the receiver was media blasted prior and then reparked. I think the chances of retaining a strong heel stamp on a Rack Grade Special are kinda slim. I searched some of the North Store reports as I thought I had read that most WRA RGS in the racks had weak heel stamps for the most part.
I see that you are not close to the NS, but if your goal is a strong heel stamp you might want to make a visit to the store. Mail order is always a crap shoot.
Good luck!!

Yes a 8 hour drive to Ohio or 12 to Alabama is not in the cards right now. I don't mind weak, just an obliterated one would be a disappointment. I also don't mind pits on the rest of the receiver. Unfortunately it is the only CMP WRA option available to me right now. I can always upgrade later if not happy or road trip this summer. So far I've been pleased with my mail order guns "wood knocking". I still would love to seem some recent WRA rack pics if anyone has some. Thanks again!

Did a quick search....not too bad. Not sure you have seen this one. Don't see many postings for WRA RGS's.....

Thanks Shomway, I would be fine with that one. Stickied and I will wait and see how the dice land. The order is going out Monday. With the new barrel and stock it's a good deal regardless.

Default Winchester Rack Grade Special

I just received my Winchester Rack Grade Special last week and I could not be happier. There is absolutely no rust or pitting anywhere and the lettering to me looks like any others I have ever seen. I have already disassembled her and greased up all the moving pieces but there was NO rust or pitting below the wood. There could have been some minor pitting but if there was the repark that was done cleared it all off.

I received my limit of WRA Rack specials in Nov, 4 had hard to read faint heel markings, 2 had nice deep markings. They where all different , some of the trigger groups had surface rust, some looked like fresh park, lot of the sights were rusted, some of the bolts had no wear on them , but had light surface rust, all op rods measured good with decent finish. 2 had complete HRA trigger groups.

All in all , mine were a great deal for the money and I am happy. I even got a Win 13 with a good heel marking.
