Default Remington 1903 Thoughts

Gents, was wondering if you could give your opinion here. I picked this one up from an estate auction a few weeks ago for $185 bucks. Many folks did not bid because it had been d & t on the right side of the receiver with 4 very small spots and then “repaired” with set screws. Bore is perfect and measures 1 and 2 respectively. Wondering if this was perhaps an old Lyman 48 attempt or just bubba? Rest of the gun is very nice and shoots like a dream. Thoughts?

You made a good purchase on that rifle. I have yet to find one at such a bargain. My envy is strong! Keep 'em in the black.

Really interested if someone can tell me what pattern the 4 holes are for? Lyman, Redfield or just bubba? Was thinking about remounting a Lyman 48 if someone could verify.

Looks bubba. I've never seen a receiver mounted aperture sight or base that took four holes. Hopefully at least one of the sets lines up with either a Lyman or Redfield. Otherwise, nice rifle.

Standard spacing should be .600 give or take. I'm sure you'll have no problem mounting a sight.

If I was to hazard a guess I'd say that the sights were mounted once and interfered with the bolt handle and needed to be moved forward. Eddie

A steal, great pickup. And I'm with the above, first mount was too near bolt, so remount. Worth at least 3x what you paid, I'd think.

Although, at $185 hardly a major issue, the barrel is most likely a replacement.

Very nice.
Pop a Lyman on her and forget the extra holes are under there.
