Seeing as I just got mine back on trade I was hoping I can find out a bit more about it, as well as others like it. Mine has a barrel stamp of 10 of 42 with the SC and flaming bomb. It also has a small p on the underside of the barrel. What interests me is its wearing Remington wood, with no typical re arsenal stampings. I've been told it is a very early production SC, and it's small amounts of Remington parts may be correct. Serial number is 3609126. Any information would be appreciated.

If anyone may happen to know a approximate date run (start to finish) of those six grove barrels, I'd appreciate that knowledge as well.

Your rifle has been overhauled, refinished, and re-assembled from mixed parts. The Remington parts on your rifle originated from overhaul and not the Smith-Corona factory.
6-goove barrels appear sporadically with decreasing frequency throughout Smith-Corona production. Hope this helps. J.B. |

This may be a dumb question, but other than swaging a slug down the bore or using a scope what would be the easiest way to determine the # of lands?

Drive any bullet into the muzzle slightly, grasp with diagonal pliers, remove bullet and count. Good Shooting. ...
