ShaveTail,

Thanks for the great after action report, and it was nice meeting you, although only in passing. I was there with my buddy looking at the WRA's while you were taking pics. We both picked up one each, he got the better of the two with a complete WRA trigger assembly, and a WRA op rod! I had a WRA bolt and a WRA trigger assembly on mine. The CMP hard cases that came with the rifles were a real treat also.

Plenty to choose from in the North Store, picked up a 400rd can of boxed 30.06 HXP and the staff was very helpful.

We are going to make another road back there trip mid-spring with a few more M-1 fans in tow.

Cheers.

In an additional note, I spent some time with my HRA SG yesterday afternoon after posting that. The stock turned out to be a real surprise. I knew when I picked it up that it was an open box SA, but after cleaning it up I found what looked like fill by the trigger guard I was even thinking of trading it after that, until I started looking closer and doing some reading. That's not fill--I'm pretty sure the stock came off an M1D and is glass bedded! The material is very hard, goes up into the mag well and behind the receiver, and the lock up on the stock is absolutely bank-vault tight. Even with the trigger housing removed I can hold the rifle upside down and shake it and the receiver will not come loose from the stock. It takes a firm two handed grip to do that. Even more interesting is that the trigger housing (WWII -12 SA W/milled guard and black park) was used to in bedding the stock--some of the compound is still on it. Very strange to find on an HRA.

Am I correct in my read on that?

Bob asked if there were woodless wincesters left. They're 495. The field grade and service grade ones are more expensive than HRA and SA.
